Car Alarms: 1997 Chrysler Sebring/convertible, chrysler sebring convertible, chrysler sebring

Question
QUESTION: My car alarm goes off periodically and I cannot shut off or start my car until the alarm stops after about 5 minutes.  I didn't know it had alarm when I bought it about 6 months ago.  I try to put the key in the ignition but It won't cut off and my car will not start.  I do not have a remote with this car.  Can you help me? It
is embarrasing to have this happen to me.

ANSWER: Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)
Or,
is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take, to help you to fix this
situation you're in quickly.

QUESTION: When the alarm goes off, the horn blows, lights flash and LED alarm light flashes on and off.  I cannot cut off with the key that I have.  I do not have a remote key for this car and I didn't know it had an alarm system when I bought it.

Answer
The key is why it's triggering. Without it,
you would normally insert the key in
the drivers door, turn left, then right
to disarm and reset it. If yours is malfunctioning,
you can disable it for good by doing the following:

The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS
green/white |-| located in the drivers
door harness coming into the car in the door jamb.

Once Located, splice into this wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the alarm functions entirely.

However, at this point, this car would be exceedingly
easy to steel, so I suggest you get an aftermarket
alarm system to protect it from here on in.

Have a good day.
