Car Alarms: 2001 toyota corolla alarm, alarmtek, toyota corolla

Question
QUESTION: Occasionally my 2001 Corolla alarm will sound for no apparent reason.  Of course, I cannot crank the car at that time.  How do I turn off / reset the alarm?

ANSWER: Please tell me what you are experiencing.

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)
Or,
is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take, to help you to fix this
situation you're in quickly.

QUESTION: This is a factory alarm.  Sometimes it goes off while we are inside the church, etc. for no reason.  I know the horn honks, but honestly, I don't rememmber the lights flashing or a "security" message on the dash.  That may have been there, I just didn't notice.  It may stop for a few minutes, but as soon as we put the key in the ignition, it starts back.  It will finally quit, but we  don't know what we did to make it quit, or if it was something we did.

Answer
The factory alarm in this car is part
of the door locking system. There is
no quick "fix" I'm afraid. To disarm, try
the key in the drivers door, turn left first,
then right to unlock and disarm.

This is for the factory alarm

Now, if this is an aftermarket alarm (siren),
look under the dash area for a button or, a toggle
switch. When you locate it, turn on the ignition
key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.

At this point. the alarm would have reset.
If this had a starter kill relay installed,
it would now be opened, and the engine would
turn over when tried.

You would repeat these steps to go back to
user mode to see if this was corrected.

Let me know if it works for yours.
