QuestionMy car alarm has been going off for no reason for a few months now. Sometimes just the lights flash but more often than not, the horn goes off as well. My neighbors are getting upset w/ the disruption, and I can't blame them. Is there a way for me to disable this alarm myself? I hesitate to take it into a shop b/c I am sure they will charge me a ridiculous amount for something that I can probably do myself. And my neighbors are threatening to call it in as a noise disturbance so I need to take care of it sooner rather than later.

AnswerAll right, normally, you would insert the key in
the drivers door, turn left, then right
to disarm and reset it. If yours is malfunctioning,
you can disable it for good by doing the following:
The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS
pink/white |-| in the 26 pin plug at the GEM module,
Located to the left of the steering column under the dash.
Once Located, splice into this wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the alarm functions entirely.
However, at this point, this car would be exceedingly
easy to steel, so I suggest you get an aftermarket
alarm system to protect it from here on in.
Please take this to a technichnician for implimentation.
