how do you get the door open on a 2000 Mercury Cougar. You can't take the door panel off until you get the door open. The rod is not attached so you can't unlock or open with key. Also how do you disconnect factory alarm?

This one is mechanical. You will need a lock smith on
that. As far as the factory system,

Normally, you would insert the key in
the drivers door, turn left, then right
to disarm and reset it. If yours is malfunctioning,
you can disable it for good by doing the following:

The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS
black/white |-| drivers kick panel
and is located in the drivers
door harness in the drivers kick
panel area. Remove the plastic
covering up the wire packs to access.

Once Located, splice into this wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the alarm functions entirely.

However, at this point, this car would be exceedingly
easy to steel, so I suggest you get an aftermarket
alarm system to protect it from here on in.
