Car Alarms: 9/89 Chrysler Fifth Ave factory alarm, chrysler fifth ave, chrysler new yorker

Question
QUESTION: One day 2 weeks ago I drove my car no problem, the next morning the car wouldnt start.  My father and I bought the car knowing it had a factory alarm but the previous owner was unsure of the disarm code. We batery tested everything, (the starter, the ignition column itself) the starter is getting power but the ignition does not work, even with the key in it. It has to be the alarm. Sometimes it goes on by itself, others it doesnt work at all. please help us if you know of a disarming code, or just how to get my car to start and turn over. Thanks allot.

ANSWER: Sorry, but more input is required to give you
a good answer for this issue.

I need the make & model of the alarm system
if you know it please.

Also, is it a siren and flashing parking lights,
and an LED flashing in the dash when the alarm
"goes off"?

or,

Is it the headlights flashing, a worded "security"
or "anti-theft" blinking light in the dash cluster,
and the car's own horn honking?

This info helps me determine what alarm system
(after market or OEM-factory) that you are dealing
with.

Let me know and I will see if I can help you.

QUESTION: I have a production date of 9 of 1989 Chrysler new Yorker fifth avenue, it came from the factory with an alarm system. when the alarm goes off, the horn sounds and parking lights flash.  there is a yellow light next to the steering column that lights when the alarm is engaged and is "supposed" to shut off shortly after. The seller of the car had mentioned to me that there is a sequence of buttons to press, that relate to the driver side seat's controls. Although was half sure of the combination.

Answer
Alright, normally, you would insert the key in
the drivers door, turn left, then right
to disarm and reset it. If yours is malfunctioning,
you can disable it for good by doing the following:

The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS
lt. green/orange |-|
and is located in the drivers
door harness in the drivers kick
panel area or alarm above glovebox.

Once Located, splice into this wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the alarm functions entirely.

However, at this point, this car would be exceedingly
easy to steel, so I suggest you get an aftermarket
alarm system to protect it from here on in.

Now, if this is an aftermarket system:
try this:

Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, locate, press and hold in the
valet/overide button, found under the
dash area, (push button, spring loaded)
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid,
and the siren chirps once.

(Your valet switch might be the toggle
(on/off) type. in this case, key on,
flip switch in opposite direction,
then turn the key off.)

This should reset the alarm, and reset
the grounded relay on the starter wire,
allowing you to start the engine.

At this point, the only thing working would
be the keyless entry from the alarm,
if it came equipped that way.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to usable armed mode.
You may get 2 chirps, confirming it,
and the lights may flash twice as well.

That should do it.
If you want to remove it at this point,
take it to your neighborhood installer
for this, or buy the wiring chart
(Go to: www.vehiclewires.com)
for the vehicle, and reverse engineer it wire
by wire, until safely removed.

If it does not work out this way,
you will have to replace the system
with one you know how to operate
and what to expect. Don't want to
get stuck in another bad situation.

Let me know what happens.
