Car Alarms: problems with remote, led screen, remote starter

We have an Ultra remote starter with alarm that we purchased in January 2005.  Both of our remotes are not working properly.  One remote has the LED screen and it is completely not working.  The second remote with the 4 buttons keeps killing batteries every 3 weeks.  I went to the ultrastarter website, but didn't get any info on what to do.  Is there a way to just replace the remotes without replacing the whole system.  Local shops just want to buy a new system.

The Ultrastart remotes are notoriously
malfunctioning, and failing within
a year of purchase. You can go to a site
like www.autotechs.com for replacements,
sure. But the same issue will apply a year
from now. So don't say I did not warn you!

Wish I had better news but it is on Ultrastart
to improve this issue. I sold many of they're
system a few years back, but as of late, not
one. Bad transmitters were to blame.

The local shops are not all wrong in my mind on this
one. You might want to opt for a total replacement
as opposed to repair, patch, and re programing new
transmitters all the time.
