Car Alarms: 1997 2door Chevy Cavalier, 1997 chevy cavalier, chevy cavalier

Question
I own a 1997 Chevy Cavalier 2 door.  A few years ago it started running
really bad.  As if there was no fuel pumping from the tank.  ( I know it's
not the fuel pump.)  It would randomly cut out and stutter while driving
as if I was about to run out of gas.  Well when it would die the Anti-theft
light would flash if I tried to start it back up immediatly.  SOmetimes it
wuold take an hour sometimes 15 min and the light would stop
blikinking and she'd start again.  After not wanting to turn over for
about a week it starterd one day, well, when I got home I left the lights
on for like 2 hours and killed the battery.  THe car (with brand new
battery) wwouldn't start till a friend came and dissconnected something
under my hood turned the ignition and started it right up.  He then
reconnected whatever it was he'd disconnected and closed the hood.
That was the last time the car ran.  We can get it to turn over it just wont
countinuously run.  It's been 2 years and still does the exact same thing.
Please help!!

Answer
Ok, It appears you've reset the VATS.
The car does not recognise the chip in the ignition
key when that happens. You can try to put the key
in the ignition, turn to the on position & wait at
least 10 mins like that when it happens. But
after awhile, it will stop working at all, as yours
has.
Your ignition switch assembly may be to blame.

In some cases, the VATS (GM'S VEHICLE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM)
will re learn the code this way, and will then
allow the restart all the time. But if this does not work,
then go to any GM vehicle dealer
to have the service department evaluate the issue,
re code it.

But really, to save time and expense,
I would buy the bypass module for it
and get rid of the issue once and for all.
But that's up to you. See the PLJX module

Good luck with it!
