Car Alarms: viper 473V keyless entry remote, alarmtek, auto alarm

I have a viper 473V keyless entry remote for my car (I believe it's an older model, so they don't have an owner's manual posted on the viper website). I've had the car for about three weeks, and up until now, whenever I pressed the lock/unlock button (it's just one button for both functions) to either lock or unlock my car, I can hear it lock, but the alarm does not activate (and the car does not "chirp"). Also, the LED light stays on solidly. Can you tell me how I can enable the car alarm again? It seems that the alarm function has been turned off somehow from the lock/unlock button so that instead of both locking AND arming the car, I am only locking it.
