Car Alarms: 2001 Stratus R/T, dashboard lights, dodge chrysler

Question
I bought a 2001 Dodge Stratus R/T on a auction, I have the original key, but when trying to start once i hook up the battery cable (+) seems like the car alarm is activated, and the light on the dashboard lights up, and i can start the signal light without the key.... is there a way to reset or disarm the anti theft system with the remote control, or a way to turn it off, so i can start the engine....

The doors lock/unlock, the panic button works, and thetruck opens with the remote but it doesn't want to start... hope you can help me...

Kind regards

Mando

Answer
This one is tricky. The Stratus is a difficult vehicle
to work on and it can be expensive. If it's an aftermarket
alarm, look at the last few posts to get valet overide
info, and apply.

If it's factory, then it's going to be a surgical
application using relays and resistors. Dodge/Chrysler
is the best place for this, or a good stereo/car alarm
shop.

Here's how to tell one from the other:

HEADLIGHT FLASHING & CAR HORN HONKING
AND THE WORD "SECURITY" OR ANTI-THEFT
IN THE DASH=factory (OEM) alarm
or,
SIREN BLARRING AND PARKING LIGHTS FLASHING WITH
AN LED FLASHING IN THE DASH=AFTER MARKET.

Just hope it's the former, not the latter here
for you wallets sake.

I hope this helps you.
