Car Alarms: 1996 Camry LE Alarm System, fcc id, dash area

Question
QUESTION: My remote to the alarm system does not work anymore.  The remote broke off the key chain a few years back and i carry the remote separately in my pocket -- doing laundry the other day i forgot to remove it and now the remote is fried.  My Camry anti-theft alarm system is armed though and I cannot disarm it.  I know very little about cars so please help me with this.  I have tried to disconnect the battery but upon reconnecting it, the alarm system is still armed.  What should I do?

ANSWER: Not sure what aftermarket system you have
there, but this is what I think is going
on....

The alarm seems to be in long tamper mode.
You will need to reset.

Ok, try this.
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, locate, press and hold in the
valet/overide button, found under the
dash area, (push button, spring loaded)
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid,
and the siren chirps once.

(Your valet switch might be the toggle
(on/off) type. in this case, key on,
flip switch in opposite direction,
then turn the key off.)

This should reset the alarm, and reset
the grounded relay on the starter wire,
allowing you to start the engine.

At this point, the only thing working would
be the keyless entry from the alarm,
if it came equipped that way.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to usable armed mode.
You may get 2 chirps, confirming it,
and the lights may flash twice as well.

That should do it.
If you want to remove it at this point,
take it to your neighborhood installer
for this, or buy the wiring chart
(Go to: www.vehiclewires.com)
for the vehicle, and reverse engineer it wire
by wire, until safely removed.

Now if interested in identifying and
replacing the transmiitters, try
sites like keynfob.com or keylessride.com
as they can do that by using the FCC ID#
on the back.

Let me know what you discover.

QUESTION: Hey thanks for the reply.  I looked under the dash of the car and I found what looks like the alarm system but there is no button or toggle switch -- instead there is a dial which you can turn and an LED light as well -- it states "Shock sensitivity sensor" and by the dial there are numbers 0-7 (0 being minimal and 7 being max).     There are wires connected to it which leads to I believe the LED light of the alarm on the dash.  I tried turning the dial to zero and doing what you said but it did not work.  Again there is no button to depress or toggle switch to flip so I am quite confused on what to do.  I am not sure if what I am looking at is even the correct thing.

Can I just order another remote transmitter online like you say at keynfob.com or keylessride.com? Will it work with my existing factory alarm system for the 1996 Camry LE?

Answer
Yes but you will need to have the remote fcc ID # off of the one you have there now.

Unplug the shock sensor from it's harness for now.

Then if you want it later, replug.

Good hunting.
Don't forget to get programminr instructions for it
from them. I don't do that here.
