Car Alarms: Vehicle Security System, vehicle security system, pontiac grand am

Question
I have a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am.  Recently it would not start.  There was full power, but when you attempted to engage the ignition, all power would cut off and the check engine light would come on.  The dealership is telling me it's the vehicle's security system that has malfunctioned, and that it will be $450 since they have to replace the ignition cylinder... does this sound right to you?

Answer
Odd they priced this out so quickly.
I'd get a mechanic to look at this.
Also mention to the service department
that they may simply need to reset the
VATS system in the iginition.
This is done by computer
and is NOT labor intensive.

I'd start with that first. Then if it's found to be
a bad ignition switch after that,
then shop that deal around.
450.00 sounds high.

See www.passlockbypass.com for some idea
of what's going on.

Good luck.
