Car Alarms: car alarm 2000 grand cherokee ltd., cherokee ltd, alarmtek

Question
I have a 2000 Grand Cherokee Ltd. that intermittently wont start. Code P1685 (Invalid SKIM key) shows in memory. I had a new key cut at dealer and both keys reprogrammed but car still acting up with either/or key. I know I have the factory system, but I also know the previous owner installed a (bleeping Python aftermarket). I know you dont do DEI but could this be part of the problem? STRANDED!!!

Answer
Yes it could be part of the issue.
But it's more likely that the ignition column switch and
the alignment for the reader in it that matches
the codes in the keys, are missing that communication
connection periodically. It will get worse over
time and ware out more as you use it. I'd say
have them service the ignition switch linkage
now, once you get it going, and have them
re align they're system so no more stranding.

More then likely, the Python was simply added as
an extra edge of security. Doubt if they added starter
disable. This would be redundent.

However...

See some of the past posts about valet overide
to take it out of the equation if uncertain.

I hope this helped.
