Car Alarms: Lojack valet mode button location, valet mode, toyota 4runner

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1998 Toyota 4runner with a Lojack installed by the dealer; I called the customer service people this morning and with them on the phone I looked all over the dash, steering column, and under the dash.  I can't find the valet mode button!!  Any ideas?  Tomorrow, I will have to have the car towed to have someone try to dismantle the alarm.  Please help.  Thank you

ANSWER: I don't believe there is a valet button for Lojack.
There maybe an after market alarm in there,
but describe what's you are experiencing.

Is there a siren? parking lights flashing?
LED in the dash blinking?

That will help me help you determine what's happening.

Go to www.caralarms.com and contact them if
you want more on lojack and it's capabilities,
but more likely it's an alarm and the valet/overide
is either part of the LED assembly or
in the drivers side under dash area.

Let me know more about these items.

QUESTION: Thank you so much for your quick response.  It is definitely a LoJack install - aftermarket. (I bought it as part of the vehicle purchase.) It has worked without incident until this past year when a couple of times the three noise alarm went off without obvious cause.  I haven't used the fob = only the key -  except a couple of times when the alarm went off this year.  I no longer have a working fob/clicker/passkey.  The noise it emits is a three part one - each one distinct, long or short, and annoying. The lights do not blink - I think.  I can silence it by turning the ignition on and off three times.  (The point at which I should push the override/valet button according to Lojack staff.)  The LED light blinks continuously. The battery remains charged and while the radio power antenna recently gave up the ghost, even it continues to try to grind up.  Lojack people claim that there is an overide = no overide, no operational Lojack they say.  Again today, I had another many hour search for the magic button; I looked under the carpet, deep in the dash; along the side piece, etc.  Is it possible that the truck has an igition disaabler installed in factory that is separate from the Lojack?  I mean could the LoJack be disabled by the key, but the ignition is locked because of an electrical problem (say - the antenna?)  Is there a simple way to disconnect all?  Thank you again so much.

Answer
All things are possible. If it's up to me, I say
take it into a local car alarm/stereo shop and get some
help rather then hunt an peck around forever
trying to get around the issue.

An installer would be able to cut some of this guessing
out and get to the heart of the problem quickly.

It's really the best idea at this point since
you are not certain what exactly you have in there.

A.

(And no, nothing simple to get around all of this.
Sorry. No magic wand just yet :>()
