Car Alarms: Overly Sensitive 2002 Jeep Liberty Car Alarm, sirens sound, valet mode

Question
This is similar to another question already posted, but also a little different.  We have a 2002 Jeep Liberty with an alarm that goes off while the car is parked in our garage at night.  Two nights ago it went off 5 times, but that wasn't the first time it had happened.  We used to live in an apartment building with an outdoor parking lot, and the alarm would go off there, too.  We assumed it was wind, leaves, a squirrel, but now that we have a garage, it can't be any of those.  If we let the alarm run its course, it only cycles through the siren sequence once and then shuts off.  The dealership tells us it's an after market alarm, but the car alarm store the dealership referred us to told us it was a factory alarm.  The Jeep remote door opener also arms/disarms the alarm, which seems to indicate that the alarm is a factory alarm (at least it did to the car alarm store).  The system has a red LED on the dashboard to the left of the steering column, and the parking lights flash and sirens sound when the alarm goes off.  The car alarm store showed us how to put the alarm in valet mode so that the alarm won't wake us up at all hours, but it would be nice to know what the problem is and who can fix it.

Answer
My guess is that the impact/shock sensor is set too high.
Experiment with me for a moment.

Unplug the shock sensor under the steering colum area
from the harness. Then see if it falses. If it does,
then you need to have the alarm store locate the bad trigger wire.
If it stops the falsing however, then my guess
is you either turn down the sensitivity on the shock
sensor, or keep it unplugged all together, and depend
on the door/dome light triggers to do the job.

See if I am right.

Good luck.
