Car Alarms: 1997 Aurora Autostart, alarmtek, dash area

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1997 Aurora that has an alarm system that goes off randomly. I haven't been able to figure out what triggers it as it will go off occasionally when I open the door, shut the door, start the car etc... However the issue is we don't have a remote to turn it off! Is there a way to deactivate the alarm? My neighbors are getting really tired of the alarm going off at 6:30 am when I leave for work.

ANSWER: Please tell me what you are experiencing.

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
Or,
Is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
"going off"?

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action.

QUESTION: Yes it's the factory alarm. The headlights are flashing, siren going off, dash lights going blinking.

We bought the car used and it did not come with the remote so we have to use the key to unlock the doors and that seems to trigger the alarm often.

Answer
You nailed it. Without the factory remote turning
off the alarm, you will have these problems.
You can go get a remote programmed to the Aurora
at the local Olds dealership, or you can get
around all that this way:

Normally, you would insert the key in
the drivers door, turn left, then right
to disarm and reset it. If yours is malfunctioning,
you can disable it for good by doing the following:

The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS
lt. green |-| under the rear seat by
the battery.

Once Located, splice into this wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the alarm functions entirely.

However, at this point, this car would be exceedingly
easy to steel, so I suggest you get an aftermarket
alarm system to protect it from here on in.

Have a good one.
