Car Alarms: 1999 Volswagon Anti-Theft Disabling, vw pasat, volkswagon beetle

My daughter has a 1999 Volkswagon Beetle and she changed the dead battery out of her key and now her car will not allow her to start it and the alarm goe's off.I called the dealer and they want me to get a wrecker and bring it two hour's away and allow them to reprogram it.What are my option's in disabling the anti-theft system and strating the car.

Unfortunately, there is no recourse
on this one. I have a 99 VW Pasat that had the
same issue, and I ended up towing it in
for the same thing. It's done in the service
department by they're bit code reader/writer.
