Car Alarms: 1990 Mazda Miata with Auto-Mate, mazda miata, alarmtek

Question
My 1990 Miata's battery died and when I replaced it, the alarm went off and will not deactivate when I hit the remote.  It's a dealer installed Auto-mate.  I never received an owner's manual, and the car dealer no longer exists.  I looked under the dash and on some "kick something" that someone told me to look for for a valet switch, but I can't find a thing.  There is a small box with a red and a green light on it against the wall of the back shelf which I believe is a motion detector.  It has no switches either, and is the only visible sign of the alarm.  I can't get the alarm to stop and the car won't start.  Can you help me please?

Answer
That small box is probably the shock sensor.
You are correct there. But without the valet/overide
switch, you will need to remove the alarm
all together, and repair the starter wire
to get the engine started again.

If you do run across button or, a toggle
switch. When you locate it, turn on the ignition
key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.

This solves the problem for now.

Then if you want to remove it, take it to a local
after market alarm dealer and have it done there.

They may even be able to reset/reprog. the features on
the alarm you have, to allow you to use the system
more comfortably, but of course, your call.

If no joy that way, but the wiring chart for the car
at www.wirewerx.com and remove/repair it
and start over with fresh equipment.

Have a nice afternoon.
