Car Alarms: Car won`t start, jeep grand cherokee, jeep cherokee

Question
Hi there. I have a 1997 jeep Cherokee Ltd 4.0 with the optional remote central locking/immoberlizer and since the battery went flat i cant start the car. The security light is permantly on and its beeping at me when i put the key in. I have come to the conclusion the immoberlizer has gone up the swanny. I read your fix for the grand Cherokee and didnt know if it would be the same fix. Any help will be gratefully received. Thanks Paul

Answer
The trouble here is that there is NO factory alarm in
the 1997 Jeep "Cherokee". There is in the
Jeep "Grand Cherokee" for 1997 though.

If this is what you are dealing with,
The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS
purple/yellow |-| located in the door harness
in the Drivers Kick Panel.

Once Located, splice into this wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the FACTORY alarm functions entirely,
and returns the vehicle to a usable,
and now a most vulnerable state.

But again, from the sounds of this one,
I am thinking you may have an after market system
there.

Please look at the past posts for the procedure
to go into and out of valet/service mode, and see if
it might apply here.

Either way, good luck with it.
I hope this helps to sort out the troubles.
