Car Alarms: CrimeStopper Car Alarm, crime stopper car alarm, gm vehicle

Question
I recently bought a 2001 Cavalier that had a Crime Stopper Car Alarm installed. One of my friends was installing a cd player and hit the little red button that's connected to the LED light. Now the car will start, but soon after it will die. The previous owner knew nothing about the alarm, so he didn't tell me. I can't seem to find the owner before him, andthus cannot fix it. Any help? We tried reading a previous answer that said to turn the key until just before it cranks, and then to press and hold the red button until the LED light turns off. It worked...but the car still won't start.

Answer
My guess is that there was no starter kill installed here.
This may be the OEM VATS system keeping you out.

The car does not recognise the chip in the ignition
key any longer. You can try to put the key
in the ignition, turn to the on position & wait at
least 10 mins like that.

In some cases, the VATS (GM'S VEHICLE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM)
will re learn the code this way, and will then
allow the restart. But if this does not work,
then you can simply tow it to any GM vehicle dealer
to have the service department re code it.

Good luck I hope method 1 does the trick!
