Car Alarms: Chevy Suburban OEM alarm, alarmtek, chevy suburban

Question
Recently my alarm has not been unlocking/locking the doors to my 1999 Chevy Suburban.  It still arms because when I open the door - it goes off.  Secondly, it beeps 3 times when arming now and 5 times when disarming.

I also noticed that while driving, the interior lights flicker every so often.  At first I thought it was an open door or broken relay but everything seems ok.  Could it be a battery going dead?

Answer
No, from the description, it sounds as if
it's in long tamper mode.

I don't know what system you have, but if you
have a valet switch, I would try resetting
the system.

Look under the dash area for a button or, a toggle
switch. When you locate it, turn on the ignition
key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.

This should reset the system.
Just repeat those steps to go back
to user mode.

I hope this applies for yours as well.

Have a nice afternoon.
