Car Alarms: 1998 Isuzu anti theft alarm, dash area, car doors

Question
QUESTION: I have had the car since it was new, so the alarm system is original to the car.  Recently I went to unlock my car using the remote as usual and the doors didn't open.  I thought at first that my battery was down, but then my wife used hers and had the same result.  I know realize the the alarm warning light in the car is not blinking when the is locked.  I checked the fuse for this ckt. and found it ok.

Did I somehow turn the system off using my car key?  Or if not, is there some way to reset the alarm?  Or is it defective?  Thank you for any advice you can offer.

Jim

ANSWER: Hard to say from this explaination.
Tell me, when it "goes off" describe
the sounds and lights you see.

This may help me understand if it's
something you should repair or replace.

QUESTION:  "Recently I went to unlock my car using the remote as usual and the doors didn't open."  I thought at first that the battery to my remote was dead.  My wife tried hers and she had the same result; the car doors remained locked.  I opened the car with my key. Then I realized that the whole alarm system was dead in the car, ie: the alarm light which blinks on and off when the car is locked and secure, wasn't flashing.  I checked the fuse for that circuit and found it to be good.  The alarm system seems to be completely dead.  First of all where is this unit located and secondly did I turn it off by accident using the key at an earlier time?  The system was working up until very recently...say a week ago.

Thank you for your response.

Answer
It appears from your expaination, that the
car alarm is in service mode.

Ok, try this.
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, press and hold in the valet/overide
button, found under the dash area,
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes off, and the siren chirps twice.
(Your valet switch might be the toggle (on/off) type.
in this case, key on, flip switch in oposite direction,
key off.)

This should reset the alarm.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to valet mode.

That should do it.
If you want to remove it at this point,
take it to your neighborhood installer
for this, or buy the wiring chart for
the vehicle, and reverse engineer it wire
by wire, until it's safely removed.

If it does not work out this way, you will have
to replace the system with one you know how
to operate and what to expect.

Let me know what happens.
