Car Alarms: Carbine Alarm - Barely Audible, chevy corvette, brain box

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1979 Chevy Corvette with a Carbine alarm that was installed a few months back.  I went on vacation and when I came back, the battery on my car was dead.  When I charged it, I found that my alarm was no longer working properly.  The alarm (both alarm and the chirps when it turns on and off) are now barely audible and the door locks no longer work.  The alarm still functions, but since the alarm can barely be heard, it is almost useless.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ANSWER: Two things you should check here.

1. Move all grounds. Find a solid ground
for the siren and the brain box. I am
fair certain that's why the locks don't work
and the siren is kinf of drunk sounding
(warbley), and low volumed.

2. Did the siren get wet or, even water logged
somehow? This could also cause the same effect.

Still bettin on solution 1 though.
Check it out and let me know.

Good luck.

QUESTION: I checked all of the grounds with a voltmeter and also moved them to be sure without luck.  The siren was positioned under the hood in such a way that it shouldn't have gotten wet at all.  I double checked all fuses as well, but they were all good...  Hmm, very confusing...

Answer
Ghost in the machine.
Hmmmm, without being able to inspect it first hand,
I'd guess the siren and or the brain has a cold short somewhere.

Not uncommon, but does not solve the
immediate issue. You can patch it but attempting
to replace the siren. Or send the brain into
Magnadyne for repair, but actually, it'd be
cheaper to simply replace the system.

I'd start by taking it up to the guy who installed
it for evaluation.
Can't hurt, and he should back his work, no?
