Car Alarms: Chevy factory alarm, chevy silverado, silverado ls

Question
QUESTION: Further to your answer about disabling a car alarm, I would like to ask if you know how I can disable my chevy silverado car alarm, because it goes off at any time of the day or night for no apparent reason, meaning no trespassers or incidents.

ANSWER: I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
Or,
Is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
"going off"?

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action.

QUESTION: Hi Robert,

Thank you for the fast reply. As my subject line stated, it is the factory alarm; headlights flashing, car horn honking and SECURITY light in the dash area lighting up.

Regards,
Marc
ANSWER: Hmmm, ok, I need more imput to formulate a response.
If it were aftermarket, there are veriables
to stop the false alarms. Not so much
with Chevy's.

Make Model & Year of the Chevy? This helps me
narrow down the cause for you.

QUESTION: Hi Robert,
This is the factory alarm on a 2000 Chevy Silverado LS 1500 with the last 8 digits (as the dealer would ask) of the VIN being Y1198814. Thank you. -Marc

Answer
All right Marc, this is what I know...
...Normally, you would insert the key in
the drivers door, turn left, then right
to disarm and reset it. If yours is malfunctioning,
you can disable it for good by doing the following:

The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS
lt.green |-|in the drivers kick,
Also found in the purple plug of the BCM.
The BCM is located behind the drivers side
of the dash. The plugs on the BCM face
towards the rear of the vehicle.

Once Located, splice into this wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the alarm functions entirely.

However, at this point, this car would be exceedingly
easy to steel, so I suggest you get an aftermarket
alarm system to protect it from here on in.

Have a good day.
