Car Alarms: 2002 Chevy Tracker - keyless entry/alarm, original equipment manufacturer, alarmtek

Question
Hello - We just bought this vehicle (used) from another private party and he admitted that the only thing he was ever unhappy with on the car, was the excessive amount of 'beeps' when locking/unlocking the car.  He said it came from the factory that way (brand new) and he'd never figured out how to change it.  When you push the 'lock' button on the key fob, the horn beeps THREE times to lock the car.  Then, when you push the 'unlock' button on the key fob, it beeps TWO times to unlock the car.  That's a lot of beeping - and these are full horn honks!  Totally annoying.  Is there a way to reset this? so that maybe it gives just ONE little beep, when locking, and doesn't beep at all when unlocking?
Here's to hoping you can save me from a horn-honking headache,
 Ellen

Answer
No Ellen there is not alot you can do
with a "factory" alarm system to change it's
inherent feature settings.

If it were aftermarket yes, you could even go
silent. And of course, you could add it to this
car to use instead of the OEM one,
(original equipment manufacturer) which would
solve this for around 50 - 60 dollars plus labor,
but best bet is to go to GM to get they're
take on this one, and pricing they have in mind,
to correct the issue. Then you can weigh out
the options.

Sorry, don't shoot the messenger! LOL
