Car Alarms: Star gard system on 02 Mitsubishi Diamante, mitsubishi diamante, remote keyless entry

Question
I have recently purchased a used diamante and it has a Star Gard security system installed- I can't seem to find out anything about it on line.  The dealer didn't know about it either.  It is a small box under the dashboard on the right side of the steering wheel.  A plastic key with 5 metal contacts is inserted into the box.  The car will not start with out the plastic key in place- it is wired to the starter?  The ignition key will turn but the car will not turn over unless the star gard key is in place.  The car did not come with remote entry key fobs- just one ignition key that has a chip.  The car is equipped with remote keyless entry capability.  My question is - I purchased a remote keyless entry fob but can not get the car into program mode ( received instructions with the fob to jump the dataport...) to set up the keyless fob.  The Mitsubishi dealership hooked it up to their machine and they can not get it into program mode either.  Is is possible that the Star gard system is interfering with the dataport?  Any information would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Answer
Dear Louise.
If you insert the Star Guard key, and the car then
does start, it is not that system holding you up.
But if not, then yes, you need to get in there
and cut out the system. I sell something simular
at my site 12VOLTPLANET.com (on page 3 I think).

Personally, I'd get rid of it anyways, since the coded
ignition key is the ONLY way to start the vehicle,
the Starguard is simply redundent.
Get rid of it.

Once done, then if your system corrects, it was the
starter kill in the starguard causing the mischief.

If not, then you'll know that too, and can discount it.
Either way, I suggest getting it out of the mix.

If you want the wiring chart for the car to
reverse engineer it, go to www.mywires.com .

Good luck with it.
