Car Alarms: Psycho 02 Mustang car alarm!, mustang car, purple wire

Question
I recently bought a 2002 Mustang Convertible.  It has an alarm that I think is factory, but I'm really not sure.  I never had any problems until the last month or so.  Normally, I would push "lock" after getting out of the car, and it would beep once.  I would push "unlock" before getting in the car, and it would beep once.
Out of the blue, I noticed that it started beeping twice when I pushed "lock" and every once in a while it would give four short little beeps when I unlocked.  OK...no big deal I guess.
Then a couple nights ago it was raining pretty hard, and I heard the loud, longer BEEP that it gives when someone pats the top or likewise.  This happened a few times over a few hours, and then the full alarm started going off.  After turning it off, it continued to give a few of the long beeps every so often throughout the night.  It has not been raining in a few days (although there has been a lot of dew in the mornings) but this same routine has happened for the last 3 nights or so, and I'm starting to worry that one of my many neighbors will begin to express their extreme annoyance!  I would love to just have the alarm disabled entirely, but my immediate concern is to stop waking up my entire block every night.  This may be happening during the day as well, but I don't notice since I park too far away from my office.

Answer
Ok, I think it's an after market system, but
let's go over this a bit...

There are a couple of ways to look at this issue.
If it's the OEM FACTORY alarm (ie; horn honk, headlights),
then the FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE is a dark
green/purple wire |-|, Located in the drivers kick panel
area coming out of the door.

Once Located, splice into the wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the alarm functions entirely.

However, at this point, this car would be exceedingly
easy to steel, so I suggest you get an aftermarket
alarm system to protect it from here on in.

Speaking about that probability,
your 2nd option is...

If this IS an aftermarket alarm we are dealing with,
(parking lights flash, siren and an LED
blinking light in the dash), then try this....

...Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, locate, press and hold in the
valet/overide button, usually found under the
dash area to the left of the knee,
(push button, spring loaded)
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid,
and the siren chirps once.

(Your valet switch might be the toggle
(on/off) type. in this case, key on,
flip switch in opposite direction,
then turn the key off.)

This should reset the alarm, and reset
the grounded relay on the starter wire,
allowing you to start the engine.

At this point, the only thing working would
be the keyless entry from the alarm,
if it came equipped that way.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to usable armed mode.
You may get 2 chirps, confirming it,
and the lights may flash twice as well.

That should do it.
If you want to remove it at this point,
take it to your neighborhood installer
for this, or buy the wiring chart
(Go to: www.vehiclewires.com)
for the vehicle, and reverse engineer it wire
by wire, until safely removed.

Let me know what happens.
