Car Alarms: caravan factory theft system engaged, dodge chrysler, rear doors

Question
QUESTION: I recently bought this caravan with factory theft system. Theft system (lock-down) has been engaged, and car will not start (or crank). When it forst happened, car would start, and run for 1 second, and then shut off by itslef. It did this 4 times, and now will not even crank. I am told this is being done by the body contol computer, and it needs to be re-set/re-programmed. I do not know what i did to make it go into this "mode", but the alarm did go off when I opened one of the rear doors, right before this problem started. Can you give me info on how to re-set this theft system? Please email me directly at:  joe_angelucci@yahoo.com  Thanks! Joe
ANSWER: No sorry, if this is the factory alarm,
you will need to have Dodge/chrysler reset it.
There is no way to do it without they're diagnostic
reader/reset code tool. Plus you need to find the
cause here so you know what to do next time
it happens.

Not always the best news, but it is the
needed info.

Good luck.

QUESTION: Yes, factory system. I saw in the past Q/A on this forum, that someone else had exactly the same situation with their caravan (even the running for one second, and then not even cranking). This van did this once before I bought it, whcih is why she sold it to us. When we went to pick up van (with tow truck), it started right up, and ran perfect for 2 weeks, till my friend set off the alarm by accident. Now it is the same as it was before, and the dealer she had it at, said it needs a new BCM. I have spoke with another dealer, that said it just needs to be re-set. I tried the key thing, in certain order, and with-in 10 seconds, but it does not re-set. I would be willing to diconnect the system, if I knew how, and it would not mess up anything else. Let me know. Thanks, Joe

Answer
Yeah not that easy here Joe. It would need to be
pre 1996 to get it to disarm easily.

The only way to do it is to add an aftermarket
keyless entry system to the current wiring,
so that it arm and disams when it's
remotely locked and unlocked, or,
but the factory keyless from Dodge.

But that's all I can offer. No quick fix here
unfortunately.
