Car Alarms: Car Alarm and Remote Starter Malfunction, cascade effect, honda accord ex

Question
Hi!

My wife has an 04 Honda Accord EX.  Roughly a year and a half ago, I had a remote starter installed from a recommended local place.  Paid $300 for it w/ installation because they said it needed a module due to the chip in the key, etc.  Two weeks back the Honda key stopped working for lock, unlock, and truck functions.  At that moment her driver's door went "dead" (no window functions or auto lock functions), she also heard a "ticking" noise near her feet.

We brought it to the Honda dealership where she bought the car and miraculously, everything was fine, go figure.  They looked at it and said that the remote starter might be the cause w/ the wiring being, as the dealership put it "all jammed up in there".  But everything was fine, so we left it, key worked, windows worked, good to go.

Today she goes to unlock the car....key is dead again.  So she unlocks the door like she did before, with the remote starter key fob and bam, the alarm goes off.  She had to wait for the alarm to shut off.  As soon as the door is opened the alarm goes off and when tried to start the car, the alarm only gets louder.

I had the owner of the installation place come personally to my wife's car and remove the remote starter components and wires today.  And it still goes off when you open the door.  So the car is basically useless as it sits now.

What could the problem be???

Sorry for the long winded story but I figured more info is better than not enough.

Thank You,

Matt Walsh

Answer
If' it"s jammed up" in there, there's a solid chance
the installer also used t tap connectors, and or
has a misconnected wire. This can be from a bad
crimp, to a bad ground connector.

This is where the tech should start to trouble shoot
as it's unlikeley the "cascade" effect you are
experiencing each time it fails is due to a manufacturer
defect. It's more likely a bad or more to the point,
jury rigged installation.

The other issue is the transmod chip in the key.
The insttaller had to install a bypass to get it
to remote start. If the bypass has been "re seated"
from around the ignition column, it can and will
show the same signs of failure, as yuor does.

Best advice? Take it to a real installer, and have them
do a service check and repair of your aftermarket
piece. And please don't be cheap about it since you are
asking a specialist to trouble shoot someone
elses work.

You will have to pay to get it right.
An estimate of between 50 and 100 bucks is not unfair
to make this system work FOR YOU again.

I hope this works out for ya.
There's no quicky fix from the description.
