Car Alarms: Car alarm going off while driving, mercury mystique, car alarm

Question
I have a 1995 Mercury Mystique with I BELIEVE a factory alarm. I was told when I bought the car that the alarm was screwy (can't quite remember what he said) and was hooked up via wires on the side panel on the dash. Recently, the alarm has started going off while driving every few seconds. If we unhook the wires, the car will not start, and there is a red LED flashing. (which had never flashed before all this started) We've taken to holding the wires together in order to start the car, then leaving them unhooked, but we would like a more perminant solution. It does have an aftermarket keyless entry that's non-funtional, and no remote for the alarm. Since the alarm doesn't work while the car is OFF, I would like to disable the alarm perminantly. Is there an easy way to do this? I have tried the "key in ignition while pressing LED" thing and that doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Answer
I strongly suggest removal. It just does not
make sense to keep on this way with it.

To do it safely, get the wiring chart for the
car, and remove thse system wire by wire until
completed, then cut out the starter kill relay
inline, and repair.

Let me know if you want the chart.
