Car Alarms: 1997 Toyota Car Alarm Keeps Going Off, toyota car alarm, starter wire

Question
Here's the deal. Recently, I have been having some battery problems. So i went to check it in and I got a new battery. Apparently, this did not resolve my problem. It seems that I have some sort of short between my headlights and my car alarm. I noticed a while back that if I activated my car alarm it would keep my headlights on and it wouldn't turn off. So I discontinued to use my alarm. Now I noticed that while I was driving I tried to blink my lights so that someone could pass me and my car completely shut down and when I hit the lights again it came back on. So I got home and when I turned the car off my alarm kept going off and my headlights wouldn't turn on at all. My car doesn't seem to turn on anymore because something is consuming my power which could be a combination of the horn and my headlights. The car came with a manufactured alarm which has the alarm buttons on the same key. Is there away to disconnect the alarm or to do a reset? If you have any suggestion I would really appreciate your help on this.

Answer
I have to be honest, I have never heard of headlights being capable of shutting the car down.  If you do not want to take the car to a dealership then I would recommend removing the alarm completely.  Here is a generic how to on removing the alarm:

Typically an alarm system would be installed on the driver's side interior of the vehicle.  This system would have been tapped into the ignition switch wiring running down from the key.  If you remove the dash panel(s) under the steering column you should be able to locate where the harness was added that goes to the alarm.  Disconnect each wire that was tapped in and insulate the factory wiring.  You will also see that at least one of the wires was cut, this is the vehicle starter wire that runs from the key to the starter.  This wire needs to be restored, I always recommend soldering all connections but crimp connectors should also work.  Make sure that you remove all connections to the alarm and that any wires that may be exposed are insulated and mounted in a way that they will not interfere with any moving parts and do not run the risk of shorting out.  Remember to take your time and follow each connection running from the brain of the system, leaving one wire connected that you are unsure of the function could cause problems in the future so be sure to remove every wire.
