Car Alarms: doge caravan alarm, doge caravan, alarmtek

Question
QUESTION: My alarm system is terrible! I had to take out the fuse to the horn because the alarm was going off way to much at work for no reason. Now my alarm goes off whenever it feels like it And drains my battery enough to where I need to use a starter box to get it darn thing going. I don't need an alarm for the van for where I live since the cows in the field don't' know how to drive! Is there a way to disalarm the alarm altogether? I don't want to spend the money by taking it in to dodge place here, can't afford them. I am smart enough to do most of the repairs on the van myself, but can't figure this one out.
ANSWER: Please tell me what you are experiencing.

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
Or,
Is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
"going off"?

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action.

Answer
Ok, not an easy one. The problem with the
factory alarm is that you need to involve the door locks
to arm and disarm, as you REMOTELY lock
and unlock. That being said, the trouble comes in
with the installation. It's tricky.

Here's why:
1 you need either an aftermarket keyless entry
some resistors and a good installer to put it
in for you.
(print out for the tech)
USE RELAYS AND SET UP FOR NEGATIVE TRIGGER. PLACE A 4020 OHM RESISTOR INLINE ON THE LOCK OUTPUT, AND A 665 OHM RESISTOR INLINE ON THE UNLOCK OUTPUT. THEN ATTACH
TO THE (-) OUT PUTS ON THE KEYLESS ENTRY.

Once done, you control the keyless and the alarm simultainiously.

The 2nd option is to get Dodge to give you a new remote, and program it there for you. This is more expensive
option, but insures that Dodge did the work and
should stand behind it (yeah right!).

Your call, but unfortunately, no quick or free fix on
anything past 1996 on the Caravan.

Let me know if I get get you what you need.
