Car Alarms: vw oem security system, jetta gl, vw jetta

My girlfriends 99 vw jetta gl 2.o liter old body style has an alarm problem.  It keeps arming itself randomly, the front windows won't roll down, and the car won't engage the ignition. After the system arms itself i can disarm it with the remote, well at least unlock it but.  I can push start it, but it won't even turn over otherwise.  is there anything i can do short of taking to the vw shop?

If I remember correctly your car will roll the windows up if you hold the key in the lock position the vehicle will roll the windows up.  I did not think that the alarm would arm itself without locking the doors, so from the description of your problem it sounds as if your 'comfort module' may believe that the lock is being held.  This would tell me that the car would indeed have to go to a VW repair shop.
