Car Alarms: 1996 Grand Prix, cylinoid, car wont start

Question
1996 Grand Prix, just installed a steering column and the car wont start now. the car has a alarm and it and it can be started with the cylinoid but will die so the only thing we can come up with is is there some kind of chip that needs to be reset or something in order for the car to stay running?

Answer
If you have the key that went to the original steering column you can bypass the vats by reading the resistance across the key and soldering in a matching resistance on the vats wires.  The vats wires are normally white and wrapped in an orange jacket.  Cut the wires and solder the resistor across the two of them on the car side of the cut wires.  Leave the wires running to the ignition key disconnected but insulated and mounted up out of the way.
