Car Alarms: Alarm goes off for no reason, exact model number, prestige alarm

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2003 Chevy Impala. The car had a Prestige audiovox alarm already with remote starter. I had to buy and get the remote programmed. Everything on it works fine, except the alarm goes off for no reason. Every now and then. I turned the shock sensor down on both the factory and prestige alarm. I don't know what is wrong with it. It's one of those problems that happens but when you bring it to the shop, it seems fine. I also have a horn issue, when I put the car in reverse, the horn beeps as if I am holding it down while reversing. I don't know if these issues are related or something anyone has heard of. Maybe some wires are crossed. Any help would be nice. Thanks
ANSWER: I would suggest heading over to techservices.audiovox.com and grabbing your installation and owner's manuals.  There should be a way to 'ask' the system why it went off the last time, which would help you in troubleshooting the false alarms you are getting.

As far as the reverse horn beeping, I have not heard of any issue like this.  If your audiovox system ties into the vehicle's horn, and the installer hooked up the neutral safety input wire there is a possibility that you are getting feedback from this circuit.

If you post the exact model number of your system I will take a look at the manuals for you and see if I can establish any type of link.  The model number of your system is on the brain of the alarm itself, not the transmitters.

QUESTION: Ok it is an APS786, maybe that link will help. I've did some research and read in the manual how to find out what is causing it. I am getting a two led blinking, meaning it from hood and trunk pin. So would that mean it has to be a problem with those two specific wiring or could it still be different ones? Bad ground maybe? Or could the actually alarm just be broken somewhat?

ANSWER: I would recommend disconnecting the hood and trunk pins for now and see if that stops the problem.  Hood pins are known for going bad and I would lean towards that one being the problem with your falsing.

I would definitely check the ground for your other problems as well as checking that hood pin connection.

QUESTION: Thanks for the help on these issues. I'ma try the hood switches this weekend but got one last question. How do I program the remote roll down windows? I see it in the manual but don't see any way to program it. I think it is a separate module, but my old alarm book stated that it was separate, this one doesn't so  i'm not sure if the alarm has it already. If it does, I need to know how to program it. Thanks.

Answer
Window control via remote is an additional module, not a built in feature of the alarm.  If you have this installed the module should, by default, roll the windows up when you arm the alarm with no programming needed.  If they do not roll up each time you arm your alarm then I would think that you do not have a module for this.
