Car Alarms: Lincoln LS factory alarm, key cylinder, transponder chip

Question
Hello Twelvoltz and people,
I have been having trouble lately with my factory alarm. I put the key in and turn it and it won't start, the alarm does turn on though, I guess the car thinks it is being stolen or something. Then I turn they key back to the off position to turn the alarm off and then turn the key on again, then the car turns on. I dont get it, it seems to be a alarm problem. Do you think Im better off purchasing a new aftermarket alarm or do you think it might be something minute such as a relay or something?

Answer
According to DEI the factory alarm arms and disarms with lock and unlock.

The problem you are having sounds like an issue with the SecuriLock system.  This system needs to see the correct information from the transponder chip in the key to allow the vehicle to start.  I would recommend having the system looked at by the dealer.  There is an antenna ring around your key cylinder that emits a radio wave, this radio wave in turn powers a chip in the head of your key which sends a code to the computer.  If the vehicle computer does not see the correct code it will keep the vehicle from starting.  I think your problem is either with the chip in the key, or the antenna ring.

Purchasing an after market alarm would not resolve this issue.  The after market alarm would be a nice add on but will not affect the operation of the transponder based antitheft system in the vehicle.
