Car Alarms: Chevy Venture, shock sensor, chevy venture

Question
My 02 Venture has an alarm that goes off all the time, passing trucks and thunder set it off!  How do I lower the sensitivity?  My neighbors are getting irritated at it going off in the night.

Answer
Ms. Lisa,
Your alarm is aftermarket, and has a
shock sensor. This sensor is probably located
under the dash, presumably wire tied to the
harnesses found there. The trouble is unless
in plain view, (little box with 2 blinking lights
and 2 turn wheels) you will need to get in the
under dash area to attend to it.

Now do yourself a favor and do this:

Do a test, arm the alarm, and open a door.
does the alarm start to go off?

If it does, I would locate the shock sensor,
and unplug it. I mean you can turn it down,
but if it were me, I would simply depend on the
door triggers to set it off. This eliminates
any impact/shock or vibration as a trigger for
the alarm. If you want to turn it down and still use
it, locate the sensor, and turn the wheel inset,
counter clock wise, testing it as you go, until
happy with the sensitivity level.

Best option is to go to the local stereo/alarm
shop, and pay the guy to just turn it off or,
way down. Won't be much, but it will solve your
troubles.

Good luck with it.
