Car Alarms: car wont start, car wont start, auto starter

Question
I really dont know if it has the anti-grind...I will have to look at the security light when I get home tonight...what are you thinking might be the issue? Thanks for the help..I do appreciate it.

Yes the key will turn...the lights come on..its not like the battery is dead...and like I said it started right before that...it just will not even try to start the car...it almost seems like the auto starter system has it hung up or something..I forgot to mention also that it is very cold here..like 5 degrees..maybe something froze on it?

Thanks

-----Question-----
Hello, This morning I started my 97 Taurus with the remote starter a usual...it started but I noticed that the parking lights didn't come on as they usually do. When I came outside a few minutes later the car wasn't running. Now it wont start at all..not even with the key. Its like its locked or something. I think its an Avital that was installed by Best Buy years ago. Any ideas?

You say locked. Does the ignition switch turn with the key? Do the dash lights and stuff come on?

Do you remember if they installed an antigrind circuit (will the starter grind when the car is remote started and you turn the key to the crank position) Also look and see if a security light is flashing on the dash.

Answer
Well if they did an anti grind system it requires the use of a 12 volt relay, aftermarket relays are known to burn out over a few years of high amp use and getting this cold does not help. If not that, it will have to be the ford pats system (passive anti theft system) it is rare for the pats to fail but does happen you will know this with the flashing security light. My shop stopped doing the anti-grind systems because of this no start reason.
