Car Alarms: Viper Alarm acts weird; cant find the Valet button, alarm button, installation forum

Question
I just bought my Civic about 3 months ago from a family that got it in 96' brand new. When I first got the car from them, everything was fine, but it's been doing some weird things lately.

Apparently there are two buttons on the remote. One for arming and disarming, and the other I'm not sure of. What normally happens is I press the alarm button to arm it, and it's fine. It's set to beep once if armed, and twice when unarmed.

Randomly one day it stopped making the beeping sound. Looking at an online manual I found, it says I have to press the Valet button on the car to change the beeping setting, but apparently it just stopped by itself. Then after a few days (or weeks im not sure), the beeping when I armed it returned, so I was fine.

Now it stopped doing it again, and I don't know what's causing it. I checked the manual for all the common places that the valet button might be, but it wasn't in any of them. Without being able to find the valet button I don't see how I can change the settings, since I also want to turn off passive arming (arming itself after 30 seconds).

So should I be concerned with finding the valet button, or is the randomness of the alarm a sign that something like the battery is bad?
