Car Alarms: Car will not start, lx models, honda model

Question
I have a Honda model HO-4BB remote that I replaced with a battery and now after replacing the battery the car will not unlock or start.  What can I do to get it working again.  I bought the car a year ago.  A 99 Honda Accord.

Answer
According to the data sheet I have the 99 Accord's factory alarm in the EX models arm and disarm with the door locks.  The LX models arm and disarm only with the factory remote.  If your system worked prior to replacing the vehicle's battery then I would think the battery installation caused the unit to lock up.  I would suggest turning the key to the run position (not start), then disconnect your battery.  Leave it disconnected for 2 minutes then reconnect.  When you reconnect do your best to avoid surging the battery, in other words when you place the terminal back onto the battery, hold it in place making connection with one hand and tighten it with the other.  Sometimes the surging of a connector can cause spikes that can lock up the alarm system.
