Car Alarms: GM Alarm, security light, light flashes

Question
This system does not have a valet switch on it. I'm familiar with alarm systems,I installed one on my 94 TA with remote start and everything..I can't believe I can't figure out this factory one.Oh and also the alarm is not set to automatically arm when you close the doors either. The only way to set the alarm is with the remote.

-----Question-----
It has a led on the dash and the alarm is factory programmed to honk and flash the lights when arming and setting off..No modifications have been made to this vehicle at all..What's happening is when you set the alarm after you hit the lock button the alarm will start going off in about 3 seconds. When you turn it off and reset it,it does the smae thing.I saw a TSB from GM that states when it's wet out some may experience a problem like this and when it dries up the problem usually goes away. That was basically when it started happening but now it's non stop.
They suggested to check the pin switches for the door because sometimes they do short out because of the moisture, but I did not find a problem with that. When you close the doors the interior lights have a delay and is functioning properly.I'm wondering if it's a problem with the alarm module itself. No security light flashes on the dash or anything of that nature.I hope this is enough info for you..Thanks,Dave

-----Question-----
I have a 96 camaro and when I set the alarm it keeps going off.I checked the pin switches to see if they were shorted and the BCM was detecting an open but that's not the case because when you close the doors the interior lights do go off.Is there anything else I should look for? I have no clue right now as to what to do next to figure it out..It's all factory with no mods..
-----Answer-----
Please tell me what you are experiencing.

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Many veriables on this vehicle &
I Require a bit more imput please.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
Or,
is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take, to help you to fix this
situation you're in quickly.

I have a problem with the LED in the dash,
and no security light instead.

Humor me a sec & try this.

Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, locate, press and hold in the
valet/overide button, found under the
dash area, (push button, spring loaded)
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid,
and the siren chirps once.

(Your valet switch might be the toggle
(on/off) type. in this case, key on,
flip switch in opposite direction,
then turn the key off.)

This should reset the alarm, and reset
the grounded relay on the starter wire,
allowing you to start the engine.

At this point, the only thing working would
be the keyless entry from the alarm,
if it came equipped that way.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to usable armed mode.
You may get 2 chirps, confirming it,
and the lights may flash twice as well.

That should do it.

Let me know what happens.

Answer
Hmmm, a puzzle.

The only way to disarm these alarms is with
the factory remote or turning on the ignition.
To turn off the factory alarm.

Ok, do you have the remotes?
If so, let's ID the system.
Go to www.KEYLESSRIDE.com & use th fcc #s
on the back of it.

If not try this:

Programming Factory Security on GM Cars and Trucks
Instructions for programming the GM factory security systems that do NOT
disarm from the driver’s door key cylinder. This programming is for the
cars and trucks listed below.

96+ Camaro
96+ Firebird
99+ GM Trucks
99+ GM Sport Utility Vehicles

Step #1 Turn the ignition on then off.

Step #2 Remove the radio fuse only (not the fuse that says acc/radio).

Step #3 Turn the key to the accessory position. When you do this you
will get two chirps from the door buzzer. Should you hear only
one chirp, your vehicle does not have factory security and these
instructions do not apply. You need to hear two chirps.

Step #4 Press the unlock switch on the door. This will give 1-4 chirps
depending on the program step. Continue pressing the unlock
switch until you get to the desired chirp setting.
1 Chirp – Security off
2 Chirps – Remote Only
3 Chirps – Factory Setting
4 Chirps – Passive Arming

Step #5 Turn the ignition off.

Step #6 Put radio fuse back in.

This is what I have found and
can offer at this point.
Hopefully it will work.
