Car Alarms: car starter, viper car starter, key cylinder

Question
have a viper car starter in a 2002 durango...why does it start but does not stay runnig??..turns on and off three times will not stay running...it seems to like to start fine if the key is in the ignition tho... has the chip in the key.. is it a security problem??...also it does not do this every time...just more often than not...ty for the help.

Answer
If you had the system professionally installed I would recommend taking it to the installer, the transponder bypass module's location needs to be adjusted.

If this is something you want to try yourself, you could pull the plastic shroud off the steering column, find the ring or pellet that was mounted next to the key cylinder and see if it has come loose or has just moved since the system was installed.  Realigning this should resolve your problems.
