Car Alarms: Ford Factory Alarm Horn chirps, explorer sport trac, sound perspective

Question
Hello,

I just recently had a remote start added to my wife's 2003 Explorer Sport Trac that had a factory alarm installed when we bought it new. The only problem I have is that to use the remote start, you have to press the lock button 3 times which causes the horn to beep twice. I live in a quiet neighborhood and I can see that becoming annoying quickly. The alarm also has a siren so I don't need the horn from a sound perspective as it relates to the alarm. How do I disable the horn chirp lock confirmation so when I press the lock button, the horn does not chirp?

Answer
To my knowledge you can not turn off the horn chirp option on the Ford factory key less unit.  This is a confirmation that only occurs after the second push of the button to show it has received the command from the remote and has locked.  This is a function of the Body Control Module and is not a user selectable option as far as I am aware.  If it is a setting that can be turned off it would be discussed in the vehicle owner's manual.

You say there is also a siren in the vehicle, this would typically indicate an after market alarm system, not a factory installed system.  It is possible that the system was installed at the dealership.  Ford offers security systems as add-ons manufactured by code alarm but branded as Ford.  If this is the type of security system you have then you may be able to turn off the confirmation chirps, but that would be referenced in the system's manual.

I actually have a Ford manual for their systems in .pdf format from a job I did for a friend.  I can send it to you if you would like, please post your email address and I will forward it.  It covers how to turn off the confirmation chirps that you are referencing.  It is not a very well written manual (IMO) but it is all there from wiring diagrams to programming new remotes to changing settings.  Again though this would only apply to a Ford branded after market alarm.
