Car Alarms: 1998 Toyota Sienna Alarm, fender bender, dash area

Question
Robert,  Thanks for the quick response.  I think it's factory installed.  We bought the van new and it had the anti-theft system installed when it was delivered.  I can't find a valet switch.

-----Question-----
We have a '98 Toyota Sienna.  The alarm used to go off once in a while. No big deal.  Since my wife got in a fender bender, it goes off all the time to the point where I have to leave one of the doors unlocked so it won't go off.

We currently live in Germany.  We want to ship our car back next week.  I need to either fix the alarm or disable it.  The alarm is factory installed.  I pulled the door lock fuse.  It had no effect on the anti-theft system.

Can you tell me how to disable the anti-theft so I can ship it back to the states?  Then I can get it fixed when we get it home.  The Toyota dealers here don't have any US spec wiring diagrams and have not been able to fix it.

Thanks,

Steve
P.S.  Maybe you can save me some money, too!

The aftermarket alarm seems to be doing it's job.
At least we know it's installed correctly
which is actually a good thing here.

Ok, try this.
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, locate, press and hold in the
valet/overide button, found under the
dash area, (push button, spring loaded)
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid,
and the siren chirps once.

(Your valet switch might be the toggle
(on/off) type. in this case, key on,
flip switch in opposite direction,
then turn the key off.)

This should reset the alarm, and reset
the grounded relay on the starter wire,
allowing you to start the engine.

At this point, the only thing working would
be the keyless entry from the alarm,
if it came equipped that way.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to usable armed mode.
You may get 2 chirps, confirming it,
and the lights may flash twice as well.

That should do it.
If you want to remove it at this point,
take it to your neighborhood installer
for this, or buy the wiring chart
(Go to: www.vehiclewires.com)
for the vehicle, and reverse engineer it wire
by wire, until safely removed.

If it does not work out this way,
you will have to replace the system
with one you know how to operate
and what to expect. Don't want to
get stuck in another bad situation.

Let me know what happens.

Then we have an issue. The only way to disable
the factory alarm (headlight honk, and horn honk)
would be to add a keyless to it. The Toyo
system activates and de activates upon lock and
unlock of the doors. Either ny key, or remote.

If yours is aftermarket wit a siren, and park light
flash, LED in the dash etc... Then it needs repair.

Take it in to Toyota to determine just
what you are dealing with.

Best way really.
