Car Alarms: 1999 Toyota 4Runner Alarm, toyota 4runner, alarmtek

Question

The horn is honking and no lights are flashing anywhere.  I'm never inside it to see what, if anything, is flashing on the dash.  I can push the unlock button on the key fob to make it stop.  I do know that the system is factory toyota.
Thanks,
Matt

-----Question-----
I have a 1999 Toyota 4Runner with the factory alarm system.
It has recently started going off all the time for no apparent reason.  It does have a new battery.  I've taken it in to the Toyota shop and usually get the runaround.  The service guys say there's nothing wrong.  Have you heard of this problem before?
-----Answer-----
Please tell me what you are experiencing.

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Many veriables on this vehicle &
I Require a bit more imput please.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
Or,
is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take, to help you to fix this
situation you're in quickly.

Answer
The trouble is then in the cylander at the door switch.
The "factory" alarm disarms ONLY when the
drivers door is unlocked, either manually
or remotely. The key in the door, turned to
the left, then right, will/should disarm it.

If nothing is happening as far as the system arming
or disarming, then Toyota needs to step up
and replace the alarm module.

If it were aftermarket, there would be a valet
switch under the dash area to manipulate the modes.

If you see one, get back to me, otherwise
go to another Toyota dealer that will take care of
your system.

Good luck.
