Car Alarms: 2003 chrysler sebring coupe car alarm, chrysler sebring coupe, valet mode

Question
I have had my car for 2 years and have never heard my alarm.  I put my key in the door yesterday, turned it and it went off.
I thought that starting the car would dis-arm it but it continues on for three minutes.  I would like to just remove my alarm but do not know where to find it.  If you could be of any assistance I appreciate it.  Thanks

Answer
If this is a factory alarm then turning the key in the door to the unlock position should disarm it.  There is a wire in a black 32 pin plug in the driver's kick panel that is orange.  This wire disarms the factory alarm when it sees a ground.  If you can not get the alarm to disarm by turning the key cylinder the key cylinder's switch may have gone bad.  Tap this wire to ground once and your alarm should disarm.  If the switch is bad, I would recommend having it looked at.  To save yourself the fees involved in having the dealer repair the switch (if it is the actual problem) I would recommend an after market key less entry system, if not a remote starter for the added convenience, that would include key less on the new remote.  Any shop that installs these systems will know how to integrate with the factory alarm system.

Is there an LED mounted in the vehicle?  If there is then you probably have an after market system.  If it is an after market alarm there will be some type of over ride switch mounted in the vehicle, this over ride is known as valet mode.  To put most after market systems into valet mode, you simply turn the ignition to the on position and flip the switch.  If you want to permanently disable an after market system the easiest way would be to remove the fuses supplying the brain of the system.  If you pop down the dash panel under the steering column you will see the factory ignition harness, follow this harness back to the brain of the alarm, and remove the fuses supplying the brain.
