Car Alarms: Alarm my be causing hesitant starter?, solenoid starter, valet mode

Question
I have a 1993 Escort which had an alarm on it when I got it, I don't know what kind.  I put it in valet mode, and it starts all the time without using the alarm.  Just recently, it has just began-when you turn the key to start it-there is a 1 second delay before the starter starts turning.  It has gotten colder here in Michigan (about 30) and this has started.  The connections seem good and tight.  I do remember my 1989 Escort did the same thing for about 2 years with a Sidewinder alarm on it, and then the car was junked, I never found out what was doing it.  I was wondering if that alarm could be causing this, it is annoying and feels unreliable.

Answer
The way a starter kill is wired, unless the system is defective, I would think this problem is not related to the alarm.  The starter should be completely disabled and not turning over at all if the alarm was indeed the reason for the problems you are having.

I would check into the starter solenoid/starter or even the vehicle's battery if you feel this is temperature related.
