Car Alarms: Passlock problem?, pontiac sunfire, gm dealer

Question
Hi!  I bought a 97 Pontiac Sunfire at an impound auction - no original keys.  Had a new key cut at dealer - unlocks, turns on acces. but won't attempt to start - just clicks.  Theft System light comes on along with other lights, but isn't flashing or anything.  Car looks to be really well kept, has low mileage, no reason to assume it won't run.  Also, battery was missing - more reason to assume possible Passlock problem.  Tried all the online solutions except installing a switch to bypass.  Does this sound like Passlock problem?  Would bypassing and installing remote work?

Answer
It does indeed have a passlock 1 VATS.
My suggestion:
You will need the dealer to cut you the keys for it.

Please have the VIN and registration ready when you
get to GM or by law, they can not reproduce the key.

You can do a relay bypass. See www.passlockbypass.com
on page 2 to see how you can do it with relays,
then any key made cut for the ignition would work.
(but viable!)

A bypass might work and this system actually is not
reliable long term, but no guarantee there really
but if it were me, the system seems to be operating
correctly, and the best way really is to get the keys
programmed to them at the GM dealer and move on.
Much easier. And retain the security profile of
the car. Less chance of a malfunction.

Your call of course.

But at least you have the options.

Good luck.
