Car Alarms: 1998 Mercury Mountaineer alarm disable, key fobs, mercury mountaineer

Question
Its the factory alarm. The headlights flash and the horn sounds and a light on the dash flashes THEFT.  It doesn't matter if the doors are locked or not. I Just came home and shut if off, did not lock the doors and a went in the house. Next thing I know its going off again. It would not shut off with the panic button or the unlock on the keyfob. I had to start the car to get it to stop. I bought the SUV used and the keys I received with it fit the ignition and the hatch but not the doors so I have never turned a key in the driver door. Can Something be unpluged so the the alarm function is disabled?

-----Question-----
Is there a way to disable the factory alarm on a 1998 Mercury Mountaineer. It goes off at the worst possible times. 4am, when I'm away,!!!!!!!!!!!! The vehicle has the outside keypad. The door locks and key fobs seem to work fine.
-----Answer-----
Please tell me what you are experiencing.

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Many veriables on this vehicle &
I Require a bit more imput please.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
Or,
is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take, to help you to fix this
situation you're in quickly.

Answer
Ok, here's what I know. This system
depends on a negative pulse either from the drivers
door tumbler, keypad on the door does that, and
so does a remote and also the key. In your case,
there seems to be a door trigger or sensor picking
up the intruder signal, and setting off the alarm.

Here's what you can do about it.

You can reset the alarm, but the trouble would persist
if not checked by Lincoln/Merc. for issues.
This is of course, the pricey option.

The easiest way to get around this however is
to remove the drivers leg kick panel, locate
the dark green with purple stripe wire, splice
into it, then put it to the chassis ground.
This eliminates the factory noise generator,
and headlight flashing part of the system.
(Don't forget to tape the spiced area!)

Done.

Then get an aftermarket alarm to pickup
the protection you are disabling.

Good luck!
