Car Alarms: 99 Accord alarm goes off for no reason, alarmtek, lx models

Question
It is a factory alarm, parking lights flashing and horn honking when the alarm goes off. The locks seem to be a little sluggish when I try to unlock them too. I don't know if this is related or not. Thanks for the timely response.

-----Question-----
The factory alarm on our '99 Honda Accord went off three time early this morning for no reason. I went out and shut it off with the remote and it went off again about a minute later. I even tried leaving it unlocked and the alarm still went off. I started the car and let it warm and defrosted the windows, this seemed to help and the alarm hasn't gone off since. This happened a couple of days ago too and since then when we lock our car with the remote the doors lock but the horn doesn't honk (indicating the alarm is set). Any insight you can give me will help, thanks.

Please tell me what you are experiencing.
I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Many veriables. More imput please.

Headlights flashing, car horn honking?
Or, is it flashing parking lights, and
a siren going off?

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action.

Answer
The parking lights tell me it's possibly
aftermarket, because if it's the Factory system,
it arms and disarms with the door locks
on the EX models.  The LX models arm only
with the factory transmitter,
but let's see...

...try this.
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, locate, press and hold in the
valet/overide button, found under the
dash area, (push button, spring loaded)
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid,
and the siren chirps once.

(Your valet switch might be the toggle
(on/off) type. in this case, key on,
flip switch in opposite direction,
then turn the key off.)

This should reset the alarm, and reset
the grounded relay on the starter wire,
allowing you to start the engine.

At this point, the only thing working would
be the keyless entry from the alarm,
if it came equipped that way.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to usable armed mode.
You may get 2 chirps, confirming it,
and the lights may flash twice as well.

That should do it.

However,

If indeed it is the factory alarm,
the easy fix would be to add a good keyless
entry with would solve this issue for about
50.00. The other is to replace the code
key from Honda. That can run from 79.00 to 155.00

Let me know what you discover.
