Car Alarms: PASSLOCK II, car alarms, initial programming

Question
Hi, I am installing a remote starter system into a 99 GM Suburban. In order to start the car, I have installed a bypass module that will bypass the Passlock II system during the ignition process. So far I have been unsuccessful with remote starting, and am wondering if the problem is with the Starter module, not the bypass module. In order to test the starter module, I need to 'permanently' bypass the Passlock II system. From one of your answers on this site ( see http://experts.about.com/q/Car-Alarms-1513/2002-malibu.htm ) I understand that you know how to bypass the Passlock II system. Could you please provide me with more information about how to do this. After I have successfully bypassed the Passlock system, I should be able to test the starter. If it works, I will know that the problem is with the bypass module. Otherwise, I will have to replace the bypass kit.

Is my thought process correct?
Can you provide any suggestions?

I appreciate your expert advice and thank you in advance for any help.

Regards,
A.S.

Answer
I only suggest permanent bypasses to those who are having problems with the vehicle.  Since your problem is related to the remote starter I would suggest simply troubleshooting the bypass module.

Most learning type bypass modules require initial programming, this is usually explained in detail in the installation manual of the bypass itself.  Different modules achieve the bypass in different ways.  The DEI 456L achieves it by cutting the wire that provides information to the BCM.  Bypasskit.com's modules achieve it with a connection to the databus.  Ensure the module is installed correctly and programmed and if you are still having problems post the make and model of your bypass and I will try to assist from there.
